Put in a Skeptic's Shoes
There are many similarities (and differences) to what skeptics and believers think about ghosts, if you do believe there is such thing, that is.
Many skeptics think that ghosts are disembodied spirits of humans that are no longer living.
They think that ghosts often haunt houses, especially where murders have occured.
If you or your friend are a skeptic, one of the mysteries of the spirit world (to you) is probably why murder victims stay to haunt a place forever, while others just seem to evaporate.
Even if skeptics and believers never know the answer to this question, at least we both share a similar idea that ghosts aren't living beings.
Additionally, something else a skeptic thinks is that ghosts like to work in the dark since it is harder for people to see them than in the daylight when they are more "visible". That's not always the case with true believers since they think that ghosts can be seen during the day too.
Unlike the common believer who thinks that ghosts can be seen or frighten people in the daylight, another reason why ghosts like to work in the dark (to skeptics) is because it is easier to scare or deceive people because they can't see what's going on.
Its cooler and breezier at night too, which also might assist ghosts in making scary sounds and noises.
According to a skeptic's logical thinking, ghosts don't like to work in conditions where people can see what they're doing either because then that would expose them as what they really are instead of what they want people to imagine them to be. When ghosts appear in the darkness, they are able to maintain their mysteriousness.
Ghosts have found out that people are afraid of the dark and that fear makes their work a lot easier.
So, if you are a skeptic, I probably summerized just about everything you think about ghosts and even if you think they are complete nonsense, at least some skeptics have reasons to prove what they do think about them.
